ABOUT ME
I'm Emily and I'm a graduate with First Class Honours in BA (Hons) Product Design from Sheffield Hallam University.
To me, design is about creating something purposeful and inspiring. I derive inspiration from many forms of art, from fine art to custom motorbikes. I feel strongly about creating products that have a meaningful and positive impact on the environment and our everyday lives.
I followed my love of design to university where I have been able to creatively explore my passion. In my placement year of university, I worked as a product design intern at Touratech GmbH designing and aiding in the manufacturing of a range of accessories for a variety of motorbikes. I have developed my skill set through this and am subsequently adept in various design programs such as SolidWorks and Adobe Illustrator and highly competent in the workshop with turning, welding, and 3D printing. I have become confident using the spray booth following an intensive spray painting course I was enrolled on.
During my time in industry, I have greatly advanced my ability to conduct meaningful research in my projects. I enjoy the process of developing ideas from preliminary research and concept sketches to model making and manufacturing a final outcome.
I speak German at a CEFR C1 (Advanced) Level. I furthered my language ability on placement in Germany; using it daily both in the workplace and socially.
I have always been captivated by travelling and have recently enjoyed travelling across Southeast Asia for 9 months where I connected with interesting people through adventures on mopeds, visits to UNESCO world heritage sites, jungle hikes, scuba diving, and canyoneering. I have also previously ridden my motorbike across Europe on self-supported expeditions combining design visits with wild camping in 10 countries, riding several of the high Alp passes and kayaking white water rivers in the Ardennes Forest. I enjoy hands-on work and I regularly perform maintenance tasks on my 23-year-old motorbike to keep her running well. I thoroughly enjoy learning new skills and applying myself to challenging tasks.
